Thurston of Big Valley qualifies for 2019 Wrangler NFR Network
Heading into the final week of the regular season on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit, Tyson Durfey of Weatherford was ranked 17th in the tie-down roping standings. In order to qualify for the 2019 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Durfey knew he had to aggressively rally to finish the regular season ranked in the top 15. Durfey did just that by winning the Sept. 24-29 Pasadena Livestock Show Rodeo in Pasadena where he earned $4,788. He finished the regular season, which concluded Sept. 30, in 14th place with $64,734. The Wrangler National Finals is scheduled for Dec. 1-10 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas.

The top 15 contestants in the standard rodeo events – bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping (headers and heelers), saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, WPRA barrel racing and bull riding – qualify to compete at the Wrangler NFR based on money won during the regular season The Wrangler NFR will consist of 10 rounds – one round on each of 10 consecutive days; each contestant competes once each day.
At the end of each Wrangler NFR, there are two champions in each event (four for team roping): the average winner, who won the Wrangler NFR by having the best cumulative time or score for that event over the 10 rounds, and the world champion, who finished the year with the most money (including what he or she earned at the Wrangler NFR). For each event, the average winner and world champion may be the same person or different people.

The Professional Bull Riders conducted its 23rd annual World Finals in Las Vegas last weekend and it had a new home, the T-Mobile Arena that’s beside the New York New York Hotel.
The PBR conducted its inaugural championships in 1994 at the nearby MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was held at MGM the first five years, from 1994-98. The World Finals moved to the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus in 1999. The championships stayed at Thomas & Mack through last year (2018).
The new T-Mobile Arena seats about 20,000 and it’s a very nice looking facility. However, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is staying with Thomas & Mack, its home since 1985. Thomas & Mack has been undergoing renovation work and is under contract to host the NFR at least through 2024. 5-14 Dec 2019, – Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Live online Wrangler Network Las Vegas.tv.
