The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, coming up in Las Vegas December 3 – 12, 2019, is the culmination of a yearlong struggle on the wide-open rodeo road. Professional cowboys and cowgirls have vied for a coveted spot in the top 15 of their respective events so they can take their place in the Thomas & Mack Center arena for 10 nights of rodeo action, battling on dirt for a chunk of an unprecedented $10 million in prize money and a chance to be crowned world champion.
The fun starts with THE AMERICAN Pre-Show at 2:00 PM ET as we profile and interview some of the athletes competing this year. Then, get ready for THE AMERICAN at 3:00 PM ET. This year’s show is hosted by rodeo announcer Justin McKee, nine-time world champion cowboy Ty Murray, two-time PBR World Champion Justin McBride and 17–time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo team roper Bobby Harris. Check out the complete list of participating athletes and read their bios and stay with AmericanRodeo.com for live results throughout THE AMERICAN. Afterward, come back to the site for photos, videos and the latest news.
The Action Starts Today at Wrangler NFR
The Pioneer also is where Clark Gable reportedly sat at the bar in stunned and mournful silence while volunteers trekked to the top of nearby Mount Potosi on mules where Gable’s wife, Carole Lombard, had perished in a plane crash on Jan. 16, 1942. You can see the infamous rocky ledge from the courtyard out back that is dedicated to the memory of the beloved actress.
The photo shoot was Thursday around 9 a.m., when the sun was just right and before the bikers rolled in to wet their collective whistle and listen to ZZ Top songs on the jukebox.
Elite Rodeo Athletes tour reveals 2019 slate in midst of rival NFR The ERA Wednesday morning announced its 2019 tour schedule, smack in the middle the rival PRCA’s National Finals Rodeo. The ERA is currently in a legal battle with the PRCA over whether members will be able to compete on the PRCA as of January.
The schedule includes Sheridan, Wyoming, on September 3, 2019, at the fairgrounds, but no Montana stops. Last month, shareowners of the ERA filed a lawsuit against the PRCA, claiming ‘unfair and illegal bylaws’ passed by the PRCA. The antitrust class action suit is officially filed as The Elite Rodeo Association, Trevor Brazile, Bobby Mote, and Ryan Motes vs. the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Inc.
“I love watching the Golden State Warriors right now,” he said. “I know where to find them. I have League Pass. And that’s what we’re trying to do so fans at home know where to find us. Follow their favorite cowboys. We want to make it more professional regarding how to follow top cowboys and cowgirls. It won’t be a situation like now, where we might run slack at 7 a.m. or 9 a.m., and I won the rodeo but nobody got to see it. To me, that’s always been a problem with the sport a little bit.”
The NFR traditionally features the PRCA’s and the WPRA’s top 15 competitors in each event based on prize money earned during the regular season. The 2019 NFR will offer fans 10 performances on Dec. 5-14 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus.
Though the 2019 National Finals will produce great stories as usual, it could lack some of the luster that’s existed in past NFRs. The 2019 NFR will lack a very noticeable amount of high-profile competitors such as 23-time world champion Trevor Brazile (who competed in tie-down roping and team roping at past NFRs), four-time world champion Kaycee Feild (bareback riding), three-time world champion Tuf Cooper (tie-down roping) and three-time world champion Will Lowe (bareback riding).
